Halloween Food Ideas

Halloween in our house is not a big deal, so it’s not surprising that I’m completely clueless about what food to serve at a Halloween kids party. Halloween, an American festival with Irish and Scottish origin are the spookiest holiday celebrated in the United States, Canada, Europe and other countries. If you are planning to celebrate the spookiest festival of the year, wherever you are in the world, but have no idea what are the best foods to serve at a kids or adult halloween party, read on as this post discusses halloween recipes and food ideas.

If you have a fetish for the creepy and spooky thing, throwing a Halloween party is a good idea as you can let out your creepiness and creativity through yummy food recipes that you can find online, preparing and serving spooky foods is a natural thing to do during halloween, so you can break free from serving traditional foods without anyone thinking you are weird or something. Come to think of it! You can have fun preparing a Halloween themed party, especially preparing the party food. That’s right, you can have a nice time turning any food into a creepy looking but delicious desserts, main course meal and more. But of course, a Halloween is incomplete without serving traditional Halloween foods, in the United States, so what are these staple foods that you need to serve.

By the way, Halloween is the only American holiday that has no particular banquet recipe, unlike thanksgiving wherein everyone serves turkey and a plethora of other foods. What are common during Halloween in United States, are candies, apples, pumpkin pies and creepy looking foods. Candies and chocolate are the main attractions because these sweet stuffs are part of the Halloween tradition. That’s why, I can serve anything I like as the only requirements for my themed party is the food must be creepy or spooky looking yet delicious. Anyway, in case this is your first time to throw a halloween bash or party, you don’t have to spend a lot of time wondering what to serve as I’m sharing my Halloween food ideas.

So, what is my halloween food menu? Well, kids love spaghetti, which is why it is on my list. And to make my spaghetti creepy, I’m shaping the meatballs into rats or eyes, maybe both. The idea is to make the foods fun as this is what kids and adults expect these days. Yup! The more gross looking the foods, the more kids love them.

One of the food idea I like so much is the Witch’s Fingers, a popular Halloween food as they go well with so called worm sandwich and also perfect for adults. It is also very easy to prepare, just prepare a cheese dough by mixing ½ lbs cheddar cheese, half a stick of butter (melted), two tablespoons of cornmeal and ¾ cup flour. Once your dough is ready, roll it into thin strips, and shape into a finger each strip with almond pressed into the end then bake for 15 minutes at 350°.

Mummified Dogs are also wonderful for kids and adult Halloween party as everyone loves hot dogs. Adding bite size mummy dogs to the Halloween spreads is an awesome idea as this is just easy to prepare. When it comes to the drinks, you can find a lot of recipes online for creepy drinks for both kids and adults, so don’t worry. Creepy drinks may be not necessary, but they can make the party even more awesome.

Serving Halloween cakes and cupcakes for desserts are also wonderful idea. Halloween inspired cupcakes, pop cakes or cakes are the perfect end to a fun menu. There are plenty of spooky cake recipes on the World Wide Web, so you can easily get an idea or inspiration.

Whatever you decide for your, keep in mind that out of the box party theme can make your halloween party a night to remember. You can mix old party tradition with modern ones by serving Halloween themed foods such as what I have mentioned earlier. Whether it is a full dinner or cocktail party, you can spice it up by serving spooky snacks and beverages. Halloween foods also serve up as party decors as ghoulish looking spreads can amp up the party atmosphere.

The following are some of the Halloween inspired foods that I discovered when researching for an easy to prepare halloween recipes, check them out to get inspired.

A Celebration At Azzurro Bistro and Bar

Last June 2, we had lunch at Azzurro to celebrate my husband and daughter’s birthday. It is our first time to dine at the restaurant of The Linden Suites, in Ortigas. I made the reservation the day before to ensure that it everything would go as planned. Since it is a special day, I have chosen the place because of the positive reviews, and the fact that Azzurro Bistro Bar is in a hotel, I was really hoping for the best.
Unfortunately, the place is not what I have hoped for because it is run-down and everything seems old. Needless to say, I was disappointed and the service is also bad, and the waiters are slow. Thankfully, the foods did not disappoint or I would have called the lunch celebration as a disaster.
We have skipped the appetizers, since kids are hungry and ordered the main course right away. As usual, I ordered Carbonara and those that knew me personally would no longer be surprise, as I simply love pasta and so is, my son so he also ordered the same thing. For my husband, he ordered the Herb-Roasted Chicken, extra rice, as always one cup is not enough…lol…, and for my daughter it was the Chicken Saltibumcca.
Overall, the meals are wonderful just a bit pricey but since it is my hubby and daughter’s special day, the bill of P2, +++ is worth it. The lunch would have been perfect if the ambience is also great, but as said awhile ago the place is not properly maintained… in fact, the management should make an effort to liven it up and so even if I like the foods, the ambience is not worth another visit unless they renovate it.

Bistro Napa - Great Pizza For Less

It’s my first time to dine at Bistro Napa, and as much as I love the ambience it was not all fun for me…For one, the place was late opening the day we went there with my brother and his kids, after an errand at ABS CBN. Needless to say, my kids are hungry and irritated and since we went to IL Terrazo Mall, just to try out the place there is no way were going to transfer to another restaurant.

Anyway, after 10 minutes more of waiting finally, we get to sit inside and my first impression of the place is that overall it is a classy, chic and romantic bistro. Moreover, the place is a bit dark, perfect for dates and not so with unruly kids as the place setting and atmosphere will bore kids to death.

Five Cheese P250.00

My brother Ronald (Staring at the pasta)

Basic Pizza "10" P 130.00 (very affordable and taste good)

When it comes to food, since we ordered 3 large pizzas and pasta because of the kids, I could not really tell if the main courses in the menu are as good as the name. But when it comes to pizzas, my hats off to the Five Cheese.

Carbonara P360 ( a disappointment )

Unfortunately, the pasta taste is a bit bland so much that my son has to dash a bit of salt just to make the taste better. I don’t know why the Carbonara is tasteless, since it is cream based.

Napa Special Pizza P 280.00

Overall, when it comes to ambience Bistro Napa is a great place to visit, but when it comes to the food, I cannot say excellent or great, but not bad as well, just not unforgettable… Come to think of it! I would not really miss the place…But its just my opinion, and so peace!!!

Its Chowtime At Johnny Chow

Last May 17, after a meeting in Camp Aguinaldo together with my Dad and husband we headed to New Resort World for lunch. It is a posh mall in front of the Villamor Air Base, Pasay City. This mall is classy and if you love to play in a casino then you will surely love the place. In fact, if you find Podium and Greenbelt a bit classy as most of the stores are top of the line then NRW is the same, maybe even more.

Anyway, we went to New Resort World simply because we wanted to try Johnny Chow. The first thing that you will notice when you are there is how eccentric the interior décor of the restaurants. It makes you feel giddy, happy and excited for the food. After all, if the place is so nice then most probably the dishes are also as good as the ambience, unless I am just being foolish again.

Thankfully, I was not mistaken, as the foods are as good as the place. By the way, I wasn’t really that surprised as I was expecting it especially since the posh restaurant is co-owned by Marvin Agustin, the actor and restaurateur. FYI the man also co-owns John and Yoko, Marciano’s and Sumo Sam. I think! There other popular restaurants that he has his hands on, I just forgot the names.

Birthday Noodle P325.00 (The yellow thing is a quail egg coated in flour)

Back to Johnny Chow, apart from the ambience and eccentric decors you will also find the waitresses as crazy looking as the place. Yup! The girls are wearing wigs of different colors, like in some Japanese cartoons wherein the character wear funny costumes and it definitely add touch to the overall feel of the place. The chairs have faces of popular personality, I even think one chair looks a bit like Ai Ai Delas Alas, you be the judge when you visit the place.

Happy Valley P 275.00 ( Salad)

Gengis Khan P 310.00 (Crunchy, sweet but soft inside)

The foods are fusion of Chinese, Korean and Japanese, and definitely taste just right. I think every meal is tasty, so much that my son loves all of it, particularly the chicken that is crunchy, sweet in the outside but soft inside. If you like ice tea then do not forget to order one, it is just P108.00 and you can drink all you want.

Heart and Soul Beef P 385.00

Steven Seagal Salmon P 395.00

Yang Chow Fried Rice P 295.00 (the rice comes with 3 slices of chicken)

So, if you want a taste of something good, eccentric but wonderful all rolled into one then Johnny Chow is the restaurant to be… It is simply chowtime at Johnny Chow!

looks familiar?

Best Tasting Carbonara At Nuvo

I love food, and together with my favorite foodie buddies (My Kids) we have discovered another exciting resto in Greenbelt 2, Nuvo!

Nuvo is a favorite hangout of local celebrities, well-known personality in politics, arts and business. If you want a serious place, romantic and just different from your usual restaurant then head to one of Makati posh Mall and let yourself, relax and unwind, while eating unforgettable meals.

My Nuvo experience consists of different pasta, as we order three of their best pasta dishes. If there is one pasta dish that I would never forget it is there Carbonara, super creamy and yummy.. Until now, I have not forgotten the taste and you bet! I would keep coming to this restaurant, as this is the BEST I ever had.

Elisha enjoying the free hot bread... Yummy, free free and free twice...

I cook Carbonara, since it is one of my favorite dish and so when I dine out, I often order it as well, and out of all Carbonara’s I have tasted here in the Philippines and my travel abroad, I must say… This is the first time I have eaten a pasta that I have not forgotten the taste… you must try it to believe me, highly recommended and hats off to the chef.

Carbonara P435 + 10 S.C

Putanesca P 375 + 10 S.C

For the ambience, Nuvo is perfect for romantic dinner as every table has candles. For wedding anniversary, proposal or you just want to treat yourself then have candlelight dinner or lunch in a place, where everything seems just right.

Bolognaise P 425 + 10 S.C

You not only enjoy your time savoring comfort foods but also enjoy free bread that is just out of the oven. Yes! There are free breads served hot, perfect with the butter that comes with it, I wonder what brand it is? So, the next time you are in Greenbelt 2, do not fail to visit Nuvo for a great meal and ambience.

Robotayaki Up Close And Personal

Wednesday, May 11, 2011 – This is the day that when my definition of a good Japanese restaurant/bar changed, as there is no doubt that Robotayaki rendition of a Japanese restaurant will surely make me go back again and again.

Robotayaki is a Japanese restaurant and bar that definitely serves Japanese food that is very different from what you grow up with, as food prepared artistically. In fact, you will even hesitate touching your food, as you will be ruining a work of art. However, the food alone is not the only thing that makes people go back to the place but the different but very cool design of the restaurants. After all, where in the Philippines can you find a resto with flooring consists of nothing but glass? Yup! You got it right, you will even be afraid to walk for the first time for fear of shattering it, if you so much as jump or run.

The other interesting about Robotayaki, which my kids and I really love is the way the bathrooms created. Just look at the photos below, as pictures can explain easily what I wanted to convey.

(The bathroom has a TV and when i was inside, it was showing Voltes V)

The ceiling made of bulb is another thing that makes the entire place worth visiting. The creativity of the people behind the creation of Robotayaki clearly seen not just with food they serve artistically but also with the design of the place.

(Ceiling covered with bulbs)

By the way, if ever you decide that Robotayaki is a must try place, please think twice before ordering their Maguro Pizza, it is freaking spicy hot… My kids and I were laughing hard trying to douse the taste in our mouth since it feels like it is burning. If you are brave enough, then order one and taste for yourself.. Don’t’ say, I did not warn you!...

Fresh Maguro Pizza P 250.00 (Spicy Hot)

Oh, one more thing, do not get intimidated about the place it may be the hangout of the stars and well to-do people, but the food in the menu will surely surprised you as the price are just affordable. In fact, some of the restaurants in Makati like the one we had dinner prior to transferring to Robotayaki, has even pricier menu. However, do not expect the servings to be big as ‘small’ portion is what you will get. Thou, I have not tried their main course as we already have dinner and just went there for dessert and to check out the place, so on my next visit I will know for sure…

Mango Cheese Cake P322.72 (Yummy!)

Chicken Yaki P 145.45 (BBQ)

Mango and Strawberry Shake P 131.82

If you want a nice place to visit, something out of the ordinary then Robotayaki is worth checking out…

(Just hanging out with my kids)

Ps: Robotayaki is located besides Manila Penisula, along Makati Avenue.
